Psilocybin Services FAQ – Oregon

Find answers to common questions about licensed psilocybin services in Oregon, including legality, cost, preparation, facilitation, and what to expect at Ripple Journeywork in Eugene.

Yes-psilocybin services are legal in Oregon under state law. In 2020, Oregonians passed Measure 109, which created a regulated system overseen by the Oregon Health Authority. Oregon is the first state in the U.S. to license and regulate psilocybin products and services.

It’s important to note that psilocybin remains illegal under federal law, though there is ongoing discussion about rescheduling it in the future.

A psilocybin service center is a state-licensed location where individuals may participate in psilocybin sessions in accordance with Oregon law. Psilocybin products are consumed on-site, and a licensed facilitator remains present throughout the experience, as required by the Oregon Health Authority.

Service centers, facilitators, manufacturers, and labs are all licensed and regulated by the state. You can verify license status here: https://psilocybin.oregon.gov/license-directory

In Oregon, psilocybin services are available to adults who are 21 years of age or older. You do not need to be an Oregon resident to participate.

To take part in psilocybin services, clients must:

  • Be age 21 or older

  • Complete a preparation session with a licensed facilitator at least 24 hours before the psilocybin session

  • Consume psilocybin products on-site at a licensed service center

  • Remain on-site for the duration of the experience with a licensed facilitator present

A prescription or medical referral is not required, and psilocybin services are not medical or clinical treatment.

No. Psilocybin facilitation in Oregon is not therapy or medical treatment, and it does not take the place of professional mental health care. Facilitators do not diagnose or treat.

However, some people choose to explore psilocybin as part of their personal growth, and they may also be working with a therapist or other care providers. Many clients share that their facilitator and therapist support different parts of their process. If you are currently in therapy, we encourage you to talk with your therapist about how this experience may fit into your overall care.

Psilocybin sessions can be one part of a broader, intentional support network.

A psilocybin facilitator’s role is to support your journey in a safe, grounded, and respectful environment. Facilitators are not therapists or medical providers. They do not diagnose, interpret, or direct the experience. Their presence is steady and non-intrusive, allowing your process to unfold naturally.

Facilitation includes three main phases:

Preparation:
Before your session, you and your facilitator spend time getting to know one another. This includes discussing intentions, history, practical considerations, and what to expect. The goal is to create a foundation of trust so you feel supported and ready.

Administration (the journey session):
During the session, the facilitator stays with you throughout. They provide quiet, attuned presence, monitor safety, and offer reassurance if needed. The experience belongs to you. The facilitator is there to hold the container, not to guide the content of the journey.

Integration:
After the session, you and your facilitator meet again to reflect on the experience. Rather than offering interpretation, they invite gentle reflection and help you explore what felt meaningful to you. This supports you in making sense of your experience in your own way.

Facilitators serve as steady companions. Their role is to maintain a supportive environment where your inner experience can unfold with care, spaciousness, and respect.

Adults 21+ in Oregon may access psilocybin services without a prescription or medical referral. To begin at Ripple Journeywork, you can schedule a consultation appointment here. If you’d like to explore other licensed service centers, the Oregon Health Authority provides a public directory with contact information for all approved locations.

In Oregon, psilocybin sessions take place within a regulated framework designed to support safety, transparency, and informed choice. Psilocybin products used at Ripple come from state-licensed manufacturers and are tested by certified labs. Sessions occur on-site at a licensed service center, with a licensed facilitator present throughout.

At Ripple, we take time for preparation and conversation so you know what to expect and can enter the experience with clarity and grounding. Afterward, integration support is available for reflection and meaning-making at your own pace.

A legal, regulated setting provides structure, accountability, and clear standards of practice. It creates a defined container for the experience, with attention to environment, pacing, and presence.

Session costs at Ripple include three separate components:

Sanctuary Room
$550 to $850
A private space prepared for your session day.

Facilitation
$500 to $2,000 sliding scale
You choose your rate in conversation with your facilitator.

Psilocybin Product
$115 flat rate (up to 50 mg)
Psilocybin products are supplied by licensed Oregon manufacturers and are consumed on-site with a licensed facilitator present, as required by state law.

Total cost depends on the room you select and the facilitation rate you choose.

Sliding scale pricing allows clients to choose their rate within a set range. At Ripple, facilitators offer a range of $500 to $2,000 for facilitation. This approach recognizes that people have different financial circumstances and allows individuals to contribute at a level that feels appropriate for them.

Facilitators at Ripple are independent practitioners and set their own fees. As a cooperative, our team has agreed to use a shared sliding scale framework to help keep services reasonably accessible while also respecting the livelihood and professional needs of facilitators.

The sliding scale relies on trust, self-reflection, and shared responsibility.

A psilocybin administration session usually lasts around six hours, though this can vary from person to person. Factors such as dosage, current medications, and individual metabolism can influence the length of time you are actively in session.

Time is also set aside for settling in beforehand and for grounding afterward, so it is best to plan for the session to take most of the day. Many people find it supportive to return to a calm environment afterward, with food available or arranged in advance.

Some individuals choose to keep the following day free of major obligations. This can provide space to rest, reflect on the experience, and ease back into daily routines.

Preparation helps you feel comfortable and supported throughout your psilocybin experience. Your facilitator will provide detailed guidance, but here are some general considerations:

Set aside enough time. A session usually lasts around six hours, though this can vary. Plan for the entire day with no major obligations, and have food available at your lodging or arranged for delivery. If possible, clear your schedule the next day as well, since some people feel tired for up to 24 hours afterward.

Care for your body. In the days leading up to your session, stay hydrated and get good rest. On the day of, eat a light breakfast, but nothing too heavy. Avoid alcohol or other substances beforehand as discussed with your facilitator.

Limit distractions. Turning off your phone and other devices allows you to be present without interruption.

Bring what comforts you. Comfortable clothing, a blanket, or a meaningful item can help you feel grounded during your experience.

Prepare your mind. You may find it helpful to reflect on what brings you to this experience or any intentions you would like to hold. A journal can be a useful place to note reflections afterward.

By tending to your schedule, body, and environment in advance, you create a supportive container for the experience to unfold at its own pace.

Psilocybin experiences can vary widely, and it is possible for strong emotions, memories, or sensations to arise. Some people describe parts of the experience as intense or difficult. During the session, a licensed facilitator remains present to offer grounding techniques, supportive presence, and steady pacing.

Clients remain on-site for the duration of the session, and facilitators follow state-required procedures if additional support is needed. Participation in psilocybin services is voluntary, and part of the preparation process involves discussing what to expect and how to approach the experience with curiosity and care.

Psilocybin is not included in most standard employment or routine drug testing panels. However, specialized tests that can detect psilocybin do exist, though they are not commonly used.

Ripple Journeywork cannot offer guidance on drug testing requirements. If you have concerns related to employment, legal matters, or personal circumstances, we encourage you to speak with your healthcare provider, or attorney before participating.

Yes. During a psilocybin administration session, Oregon regulations require that clients remain at the licensed service center until the session is complete. A licensed facilitator stays with you throughout your journey, offering presence, support, and steady care. The length of time you will be onsite depends on your dosage and how the session naturally moves for you.

This structure is meant to create a safe and contained space. It allows you to settle in at your own pace, experience your journey without interruption, and have time afterward to rest and ground before transitioning back into the outside world. When the facilitator has confirmed that the session is complete and you feel ready, you are welcome to return to your lodging or home with your arranged transportation.

The intention is for you to feel held, unhurried, and supported from start to finish.

Yes. Some people choose to journey individually, while others feel called to sit with a partner, close friend, or a small group. Both approaches have their own qualities. Individual sessions offer a very inward, personal focus. Shared sessions can invite a sense of connection and relational support.

During your preparation session you and your facilitator can talk through what you are hoping for, any intentions you’re carrying, and the dynamics of the relationship(s) involved. Together, you’ll explore which setting may feel most supportive for you at this time.

The most important thing is choosing the environment that feels safe, grounded, and aligned with your needs.
